Michael Dell runs Ubuntu

A bit over a month ago I posted

Folks, Michael Dell isn't stupid. Most people seem to have forgotten that Dell was started in Michael's UT dorm room in 1985 on a shoestring ($1000) budget and that Dell had an internal Unix group for many years.

along with my ideas for a "Dell distro" that could meet the needs of both Dell and the Linux community.

Comes now an interesting announcement, of sorts, on the Dell website:

"What kind of computer does Michael Dell use?"

Software:
Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn
VMWare Workstation 6 Beta
OpenOffice.org 2.2
Automatix2
Firefox 2.0.0.3
Evolution Groupware 2.10

note that the M90 model is not listed on the "all Dell Notebooks" page, nor on the
"Dell Open-Source Notebooks" page. but it does appear here.

People swore that Dell would never ship anything but Intel CPUs and Microsoft software. The AMD CPUs appeared last year, looks like Microsoft isn't going steady with Dell anymore, either. Conspicious by its absence is Windows Vista, according to the website, Mr. Dell doesn't run Vista on ANY of his machines.

Vista is even losing design wins at Intel these days.

Tim O'Reilly can blow me

I don't need his leftist politics. I'm fine with, "you own your own words", and it needs to stop there.

And this after Tim's continued attempts to "own" "Web 2.0".

Perhaps I should call for a boycott of O'Reilly Books and ORA "book burning" parties.
